Hi guys!! Today I'm finally posting the first (of hopefully many!) DIY home decor tutorials!! Can I get a hip hip hooray?!
Having a limited budget after paying my two down payments on my new apartment, I decided to get creative and decorate my new home myself in a way that was economical but still artistic and fun. With this in mind, it occurred to me this idea of making an ombre effect (gradient) on my bedroom wall using my all time favorite color: blue! And now you too can make this artistic wall at home by following this simple DIY tutorial!
Hola chicos!! Finalmente en el día de hoy estaré compartiendo on ustedes el primero (de varios!) posts con tutoriales de decoración de hogar!! Wooopaaaa!!!
Teniendo un presupuesto limitado después de hacer mi abono inicial, decidí ponerme creativa y decorar mi nuevo hogar yo misma de forma económica, pero con personalidad. Con esta idea en mente, se me ocurrió decorar mi habitación principal con un efecto ombré (degradado) en la pared usando mi color favorito de toda la vida: azul! Y ahora ustedes también puede hacer este arte en sus paredes con tan solo seguir este tutorial sencillo.
To create this ombre effect on your wall, you will need the following:
- Two tones of the color of your choice (in my case blue), one light and one dark.
- A plastic container or plastic plates where you can rest your paint.
- A painting sponge
Alright guys, to create this degraded color effect on your wall, simply follow these 5 easy steps:
Para crear una pared con efecto ombré, necesitarás:
- Dos tonalidades del color que escojas (en mi caso el color azul), uno claro y uno oscuro
- Un envase de plástico o platos desechables donde puedas untar pintura
- Una esponja para pintar
Ok chicos, para crear este degradado de colores en tu pared, solo necesitan seguir estos 5 pasos:
1. We will start from the bottom to the top degrading from dark blue to light blue. Start by adding some dark blue to your sponge and slightly taping the sponge onto the wall in different points of the area that you working on.
1. Empezamos de abajo para arriba para poder degradad el color oscuro al claro. Primero, agrega pintura azul oscuro a tu esponja y ligeramente presiona tu esponja contra la pared en diferentes puntos del área en que vayas a trabajar como si le dieras palmaditas suaves.
2. Before the paint dries completely, use the same sponge to combine all the paint on the wall by making quick circular motions. As you do this, you will be covering the entire wall (filling in the white spaces) with the dark blue tone, but there will be different levels of saturation of this color (in other words, it will look like a "wash" effect).
2. Antes de que la pintura se seque por completo, usa la misma esponja para combinar la pintura en la pared moviendo rápidamente la esponja en forma circular. Al hacer esto cubrirás todo el área de azul oscuro, pero habrá diferentes niveles de azul (como un "wash" por decirlo así).
3. Repeat this process until you have covered the entire area of the wall that you wish to be the dark blue tone.
3. Sigue repitiendo el mismo proceso hasta que hallas cubierto toda la sección de la pared que quieras que sea azul oscuro.
4. The next step is to add the lighter blue tone just on top of the dark blue area you just finished. Simply repeat the same process as before using the other side of the sponge (the clean side) using the lighter blue paint. Make sure to mix it in well where the light and dark blue meet so that it looks like a gradient of color.
4. Ahora seguimos con el color más claro de azul que va justo arriba de la sección azul oscuro que acabas de terminar. Simplemente repite todo el proceso usando el otro lado de la esponja con la tonalidad más clara de azul. Difumínalo bien donde se une la sección oscura con la clara para que parezca un degradado de colores.
5. To create the super light blue that is on the top of the wall, simply combine the lighter tone of blue paint with a little bit of water to give it a translucent effect. As before, use the sponge to create a "wash" effect on the top of the wall and blend it in well where it meets with the light blue below so that it looks like a color gradient. In the end, I also decided to use this same translucent blue to fade out the ombre wall onto the adjacent walls (kind of a cloudy celestial effect).
5. Para hacer el azul mega clarito de la parte de arriba de la pared, solamente necesitas combinar la pintura azul claro con un poquito de agua para crear un tono aun más claro y traslucido. De igual forma, usas la esponja para crear el look "wash" y difuminas bien de abajo hacia arriba para hcer la degradación de colores. Al final también decidí usar el azul mega clarito para degradar el azul en las paredes adyacentes (creando un look celestial inspirado en las nubes).
And there you have it everyone!! Doesn't this ombré wall look awesome?!? Who would have known I made it myself!! Don't be afraid to explore your creative side and create an ombre wall like this one in your own homes.
